The company focuses on ambitious factual series of all types, as well as factually-inspired drama. Nutopia is global in its outlook with offices on both sides of the Atlantic.

The company has been created by a group of industry professionals with wide ranging experience in the UK and the US, and has a commitment to creating projects and formats that can work throughout the world.

The company was created in 2008 by Jane Root and Laura Franses. Chief Executive, Jane has been President of Discovery Channel USA and Controller of BBC 2 in the UK, and is known for a series of hits including Deadliest Catch, Planet Earth and The Office. Prior to this Jane was a founding director of Wall to Wall Television.

Managing Director Laura Franses is a former Acting Managing Director at Raw TV and COO of Amaze TV. Previously Laura worked as Corporate Development Executive at RDF Media, and Production Finance Executive for Film Four on titles like Touching the Void and The Motorcycle Diaries.

Other board members include Michael Jackson former CEO of Channel 4 and Director of Television for BBC 1 and BBC 2, and Peter Bazalgette best known as CCO at Endemol.
